Kensington Palace
From Queen Mary to Queen Victoria and Princess Margaret to Princess Diana, it is the feminine influence of generations of Royal women that has shaped this stylish palace with its elegant gardens. Bought in 1689, the house was adapted for royal residence by Sir Christopher Wren and for the next 70 years it played host to the courts of William and Mary, Queen Anne, George I and George II. It was also the childhood home of Princess Victoria and the place where she found out she had become Queen.

Explore the finery of this stylish palace, and the stories behind it. Discover for yourself some of Kensington's sights and stories, whether you're planning your visit or just wanting to learn more about this beautiful palace and its history.

Exhibition
Diana, fashion & style
Exhibition opens Saturday 19 April 2008

A unique collection of dresses, including seven recently loaned and never before displayed at Kensington Palace, the exhibition charts the early days from the 1983 silk evening dress by Donald Campbell to the full blown style icon, demonstrated by the sleek black Gianni Versace cocktail dress, worn in 1995.

The Last Debutantes - 1958. A Season of change
This summer Kensington Palace will mark the 50th anniversary of the last court presentations with a new temporary exhibition opening on 11 June 2008.

Enter the world of the debutante and experience the bewildering rules of etiquette and the dizzying schedule of presentations, cocktail parties and dances. Stunning gowns of some of the last ‘debs' will be on display and photographs and personal reminiscences will combine to create an evocative multimedia experience, including the chance to be schooled in the art of the perfect curtsey.
